The jet lag has finally worn off after being back in New York for almost a week. My husband and I were in Hong Kong for about two and a half weeks, and it was quite an adventure! We had a booth in the antique jewelry section of the Hong Kong International Jewelry Show, said to be Asia’s largest jewelry show in spring. The show was held at the massive Hong Kong Convention Center, which sits next to the water in Wan Chai.
Even more so than expected, the show was quite a success. Not only was I very busy, but I met several new clients and had a chance to build some very solid foundations for future relationships and business opportunities. I met many people from Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan, and was able to see the value of being able to speak Mandarin, Cantonese, and Taiwanese. And to top it all off, my husband and I had the most amazing Peking Duck with a wonderful couple we met at the show.
I also gained a much better understanding of what kind of merchandise people are looking for and where the money is being spent. More than anything, it is apparent to me that the best selling merchandise are pieces that are beautiful and unique. In the coming months, I will be hunting for treasures to bring back with me for the next show.
You can expect to see us again in September for the show, and if things work out right we will also be back for the June show as well. We look forward to seeing you!
